Eday’s diverse range of habitats ensures
that the island is rich in wildlife.  Rugged
cliffs, sandy and rocky shorelines,  heath
and farmland all support a unique array
of flora and fauna.
Bird life is abundant and includes Short -
eared Owls,  Hen Harrier and Red-throated
Diver.   In the spring and summer seabirds
come to breed.  At this time you can see
Puffin,  Black Guillemot and Shag  on Eday
while the Calf of Eday supports one of
Orkney’s most important breeding seabird
Colonies.

Along the shoreline, rockpools provide a
glimpse into another world.  Above the
surface, Common and Grey Seals are both
seen with ease and you may even spot a
member of the island’s otter population.

Walks on request are available every Friday.

Whether you’re on the look out for a particular
animal or plant, or would just like to enjoy the
landscape and natural world- walking routes can
be designed accordingly.
